Sermon: The Danger of the Downshift. “Making a conscious choice to put your weight in something that can't hold it.” Three words: SOURCE, SIGHT, STRATEGY. Source: what am I relying on more than God? Sight: you can see right and wrong at the same time — just because I can SEE it doesn't mean that's what God said. “Don't change what you're saying because what you're seeing doesn't match yet.” I will say what I heard until I see what God says. Strategy: am I trusting my plan more than God? A strategy can change. Prayer: God, what are YOU doing? Give me a servant view of what You're doing. How can I serve what You're doing? Lord show me where I've downshifted because of what I see. What am I putting my weight on???
Your Stewardship Gap
Your notes show what's happening: the weight has quietly shifted from Source to Sight and Strategy. You're watching what you can see and leaning on your own plan while what God said waits on your response. The gap isn't a new word or a better plan — it's moving your weight back onto what you heard, and saying it until you see it.
Your First Move
Tonight, write out the last thing you clearly heard God say on one card — in your own words — and put it where you'll see it every day. That's your Source, not what your eyes are telling you right now.
Day 1 Write down where you downshifted: where did you stop believing what you heard because what you saw looked different? Take it to God out loud.
Day 2–4 Each morning, say out loud what God said — before you look at your circumstances or your plan. Say it until you see it.
Day 5–7 Ask God one question daily: “What are YOU doing, and how can I serve it?” Then take one obedient step inside what He shows you.
This isn't another devotional.
This isn't a sermon summary.
This isn't another place to store your notes.
It's a practical way to start responding to what you've already received.
You've already written it down. Now respond to it.
